Wollongong Council advances plan to revive Bulli and Sublime Point lookouts

Wollongong City Council has endorsed a draft Plan of Management for the Crown‑land areas at Bulli Lookout and Sublime Point. The proposal seeks to replace the current 12‑month lease limits for the Cliffhanger Café and Sublime Point kiosk with longer‑term leases, allowing the disused cafés to reopen and introducing camping or glamping opportunities in Hopetoun Park and Lady Fuller Park. The plan aims to boost tourism along the Great Southern Walk and Illawarra Escarpment while protecting bushland and biodiversity.

The draft plan will be referred to the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure and to NSW Crown Lands for approval. Once approved, it will be exhibited for at least 42 days, with a public meeting to gather community feedback. Council officials, including Lord Mayor Tania Brown and Councillor Richard Martin, said the initiative will provide greater certainty for hospitality operators and enhance the region’s visitor experience.
