Wolves killed in series of vehicle collisions near Manteler Forst

Three wolves were killed in vehicle collisions within a single week in the vicinity of the Manteler Forst in the Neustadt/WN district of Germany. The incidents occurred on the B470 federal highway and the NEW 21 district road.

Authorities are working to determine if the deceased animals belong to the established wolf pack in the Manteler Forst, a region where offspring have been confirmed for the 2025/26 monitoring year. Hans Lehner, the official responsible for large predators, confirmed that DNA samples have been collected from all three carcasses to establish their lineage.

The victims included a young female and two young males. While the exact impact on the local pack is still being assessed, officials are monitoring the situation closely. Recent changes in Bavarian policy have also shifted the responsibility for wolf monitoring to the hunting department.
