Woman in Bahia attacked with acid after reporting ex‑partner
A 43‑year‑old woman was assaulted with acid in Santo Antônio de Jesus, Bahia, after leaving a police station where she had reported her 36‑year‑old ex‑partner, Geovane Ferreira Santos. The suspect violated a protective order, pursued the victim along the BR‑101, and threw a corrosive substance from a container, causing severe burns to her face, chest and back. She was initially treated at the local Hospital Regional before being transferred to the Hospital Geral do Estado in Salvador due to the seriousness of her injuries. The victim's sister, who tried to help, also suffered chemical splashes. Residents restrained the attacker until police arrived; he was taken to a hospital for injuries to his hands and face, then to the territorial police station where he was formally arrested for attempted femicide. The case is under investigation by the Bahia Civil Police.
The incident highlights ongoing threats faced by the woman, who had been repeatedly harassed and threatened after the end of a six‑year relationship and is a mother of two, including a child with autism.
