Oaxaca journalist denounces state officials for alleged persecution

Journalist Ernesto Rojas Ayuzo has filed a formal complaint with the Human Rights Defender of the People of Oaxaca (DDHPO) and a criminal complaint against state officials. He accuses the Secretary of Government, Jesús Romero López, and legal advisor Geovany Vásquez Sagrero of orchestrating a defamation campaign and media persecution against him.

Rojas Ayuzo claims that for the past six months, public servants have been instructed to fabricate crimes to justify his detention following his consistent criticism of the state government led by Salomón Jara. The journalist reported that he has faced threats and online disparagement for two years, forcing him to remain largely confined to his home.

While Jesús Romero López has denied orders to fabricate crimes or persecute the journalist, Rojas Ayuzo has requested protection through the federal mechanism for journalists due to the escalating risks to his and his family's safety.
