Women candidates enter political arena in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Several women are entering the political arena in Bosnia and Herzegovina, bringing diverse professional backgrounds to their campaigns.

Dr. Melika Mahmutbegović, a specialist in general surgery who served in a wartime hospital, emphasizes her intention to bring medical expertise and values of dignity and human rights to politics. She highlights the ongoing challenges and prejudices faced by women in political life.

Lejla Zvizdić and Amra Švrakić, candidates for the Party for BiH, are also seeking office. Zvizdić, a journalist and documentary filmmaker, is running for the Sarajevo Canton Assembly with a focus on budgetary oversight and healthcare accessibility, specifically regarding therapies for oncology patients. Švrakić, a communications expert and public administration specialist, brings experience from media management and municipal advisory roles.
