Women in Latin America advance in STEM and technology sectors
Women in Latin America are achieving significant milestones in STEM fields through scholarship programs and regional competitions.
In Argentina, Guadalupe Manino has been named the 2026 winner of the WIATT-Universidad Austral scholarship. Sponsored by Aeropuertos Argentina, the program provides a 100% tuition scholarship for engineering studies to promote female participation in aviation, technology, and innovation. Manino was selected from over 1,000 applicants nationwide and will receive mentorship and networking opportunities within the industry.
In Colombia, Carolina Álvarez Murillo, a systems engineering student at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, has qualified for the grand final of Codificadas 2026. Organized by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), this regional programming tournament focuses on ‘The AI Generation,’ requiring participants to utilize generative artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, and Claude Code. The competition includes over 12,000 participants from 20 countries.
