Technology and AI adoption in Latin American education

Recent reports highlight the growing integration of technology and artificial intelligence within Latin American education and professional development. According to the OECD PISA 2025 study, Colombian students lead the region in weekly AI usage for learning, with 56% utilizing the technology. This high adoption rate occurs alongside significant infrastructure challenges, as 60% of Colombian students attend schools facing material shortages. To address these trends, UNESCO reports that over 3,000 Colombian schools are implementing strategies focused on digital literacy and ethical AI.

In the professional and competitive sphere, women in the region are increasingly participating in STEM and technology sectors. In Colombia, systems engineering student Carolina Álvarez Murillo qualified for the grand final of Codificadas 2026, a regional programming tournament involving over 12,000 participants that specifically focuses on ‘The AI Generation’ and the use of generative AI tools. Similarly, in Argentina, scholarship programs like the WIATT-Universidad Austral are working to promote female participation in engineering and innovation.
