Women in Turkey endure extreme heat in agriculture and traditional baking

Women in various regions of Turkey are performing demanding manual labor under extreme summer heat. In Eskişehir’s Sakintepe neighborhood, female workers harvest parsley, arugula, and watercress in temperatures reaching up to 40 degrees Celsius. These workers typically begin their shifts at 06:00 and work until 16:00, using hats and scarves to protect themselves from the sun.

In Erzincan, women working in traditional tandoor ovens face even more intense conditions, with temperatures inside the ovens reaching 50 degrees Celsius. These workers often start their shifts at 04:00 to meet high demand, particularly from expatriates returning for the summer. The bread produced in these ovens is packaged and distributed across Turkey and abroad.
