Woody Harrelson receives Honorary Heart of Sarajevo award

Hollywood actor Woody Harrelson has been awarded the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo at the 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival. The award, presented by festival director Jovan Marjanović at the Metalac Open Air Cinema, recognizes Harrelson’s outstanding contribution to the art of cinema.

During his acceptance speech, Harrelson reflected on his first visit to the city immediately following the war, describing the devastation he witnessed as unimaginable. He expressed deep gratitude to the people of Sarajevo for their kindness and resilience. Harrelson also acknowledged former co-stars, including Goran Višnjić and Emira Nušević Nuhić.

Following the ceremony, Harrelson attended a screening of ‘Welcome to Sarajevo’, a film in which he played a lead role and which was partially shot in the city in 1996. The film tells the story of journalists reporting from Sarajevo during the conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
