Lula leads nationwide mobilizations ahead of Brazilian election

Three weeks before the first round of the presidential election, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva led a series of national mobilizations to bolster his reelection campaign. Supporters participated in over 1,100 activities across approximately 130 Brazilian municipalities, including marches in Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, and São Paulo.

During a live broadcast with supporters, Lula emphasized the need to combat disinformation and “the lie of the deniers,” calling for increased engagement on social media. He also addressed campaign logistics, noting that the Workers' Party (PT) would reassume responsibility for distributing campaign materials following complaints from the grassroots.

The demonstrations also served as a protest against presidential rival Senator Flávio Bolsonaro. Protesters highlighted a corruption investigation involving the Senator and Banco Master. Documents suggest police are investigating potential money laundering and corruption related to the financing of a biopic about Jair Bolsonaro, involving approximately US$ 12 million provided by the bank's owner, Daniel Vorcaro.
