World Bank grant supports women in Liberia’s fishing industry
A 2 million US dollar grant, supported by the World Bank, is being used to increase women's participation in the fisheries sector in Liberia. The initiative is part of the Liberia Sustainable Management of Fisheries Project (LSMFP).
The grant management agreement was signed on June 20, 2023, by the Government of Liberia through the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) and Conservation International (CI). Officially launched in March 2025, the project is implemented by CI with technical support from NaFAA and the LSMFP team.
Beneficiaries of the grant include businesses in Robertsport, Grand Cape Mount County, and Buchanan, Grand Bassa County. One recipient, Kumba Boakai-Kulu, CEO of Glory Be to Yaweh Service Centre, noted that the initiative builds capacity for women to expand their operations within the industry.
