World Breastfeeding Week drives community events in Croatia and Slovenia

During the annual World Breastfeeding Week (August 1‑7), the Zagreb‑East Health Center in Sesvete organized a public event for mothers and pregnant women. The program featured a lecture titled “Truths and Myths about Breastfeeding” delivered by Dinka Barić, a certified International Board‑Certified Lactation Consultant, and emphasized the need for societal support of breastfeeding beyond the mother’s responsibility.

In Slovenia, the Koper Health Unit published detailed nutritional guidelines for lactating mothers, advising a balanced diet, adequate hydration, and appropriate calorie intake to support both mother and infant health. The recommendations also addressed allergy considerations and the importance of local, seasonal foods.

Both initiatives reflect the ongoing public‑health priority of promoting breastfeeding as a means to improve child growth, reduce infant mortality, and benefit maternal health across the region.
