World Climbing Series in Guiyang sees new world record and podium finishes

The 2026 World Climbing Series in Guiyang concluded with significant achievements in speed climbing. Chinese athletes dominated the competition, securing a total of seven medals, including three golds in women’s speed, men’s speed relay, and women’s speed relay.

In the men’s speed relay, Chinese duo Zhao Yicheng and Ling Yongzhi set a new world record with a time of 9.58 seconds during the semifinals. China also secured the silver medal in the men’s speed event.

In the mixed relay, the United States team of Samuel Watson and Emma Hunt earned the bronze medal with a time of 11.85 seconds, finishing behind teams from Indonesia and China. Emma Hunt notably posted the fastest qualification time in the women’s field.

Other notable results included Indonesia winning two gold medals and South Korea earning two bronze medals. The event featured 101 athletes representing 24 nations.
