World Economic Forum considers Christine Lagarde for presidency

The World Economic Forum (WEF) is considering Christine Lagarde, the President of the European Central Bank, for its next presidency. The matter was discussed during a recent board meeting held near Geneva.

Lagarde reportedly appears willing to accept the role, though sources indicate she seeks assurance that internal tensions involving founder and former president Klaus Schwab have been resolved. Schwab departed the organization in April 2025 following an investigation into financial irregularities; while he was cleared of any wrongdoing, relationships within the organization remain strained.

Speculation regarding Lagarde’s potential move to the WEF has grown as she has declined to commit to completing her current term at the ECB, which is scheduled to end in October 2027. Concurrently, discussions regarding her successor at the ECB have begun, with various European nations considering potential candidates.
