World Environment Day drives climate‑action events in Argentina

World Environment Day, observed each year on 5 June, commemorates the opening of the 1972 Stockholm Conference and aims to raise awareness of climate change, pollution and ecosystem protection. The United Nations Programme for the Environment coordinates the observance in more than 150 countries.

In the Argentine capital La Paz, the Polideportivo Social y Cultural hosted the “Expo Festi Ambiental” on 6 June. Organized under the slogan “Ahora por el clima”, the fair featured educational booths, recycling workshops, seed and compost giveaways, and a student showcase of eco‑leather, banana‑flour, and a chemical‑reactor project to treat laboratory waste. Coordinator Jesús López highlighted the community’s commitment to defending the shared environment, contrasting it with the national government’s denial of climate change.

The event brought together institutions such as the Instituto Politécnico Formosa, the Secretariat of Science and Technology and the Universidad Provincial de Laguna Blanca. Activities also included a market for entrepreneurs, games, and a World Cup 2026 album‑card exchange, aiming to educate participants of all ages about environmental stewardship.
