World Food Programme condemns airstrike on aid convoy in Sudan
The World Food Programme (WFP) has condemned an airstrike that destroyed two of its aid trucks in South Kordofan State, Sudan. The attack occurred near Dilling while the convoy was en route to Kadugli.
More than 50 metric tonnes of essential food supplies, including cereals, yellow peas, vegetable oil, and salt, were destroyed. The lost cargo was estimated to be sufficient to sustain 5,800 people for one month. The WFP noted that the vehicles were clearly marked with official agency flags and banners.
This incident marks the eighth aerial attack against WFP facilities or operations in Sudan since the beginning of the year. The agency emphasized that such attacks violate international humanitarian law and called for the protection of aid workers and assets. In the Kadugli region, the WFP currently provides assistance to approximately 58,000 people facing critical food insecurity.
