Overview

The conflict in Sudan has seen an escalation in aerial warfare and attacks on humanitarian infrastructure. Following these strikes, the World Food Programme (WFP) condemned an airstrike on August 30 that destroyed two aid trucks near Dilling in South Kordofan. The attack destroyed 50 metric tons of food supplies, including cereals, yellow peas, vegetable oil, and salt, intended for 5,800 people. The WFP noted the vehicles were clearly marked with official agency flags and banners at the time of the strike.

This incident marks the eighth recorded aerial attack against WFP operations in Sudan this year. The agency described such strikes as “unacceptable and must stop,” noting they violate international humanitarian law. In the Kadugli region, the WFP is currently supporting nearly 58,000 people facing emergency levels of food insecurity amidst one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises.
