World Food Programme seeks $274 million for Yemen aid
The World Food Programme (WFP) has announced an urgent requirement for $274 million to sustain humanitarian assistance in Yemen through early 2027. The funding is intended to support emergency food aid, nutrition programs, school meals, resilience projects, and essential humanitarian logistics.
The appeal follows renewed fighting along Yemen’s western coast, which has caused approximately 125,000 people to flee their homes in just a few days. Displaced populations are moving toward areas such as Aden and Al-Ma'afir, facing significant difficulties in accessing food and basic services. While the WFP has already provided food assistance to 45,000 people, it is preparing to support an additional 1.5 million people should the conflict escalate further.
Al-Khader Daloum, the WFP's country director representative in Yemen, warned that the ongoing conflict is forcing more families to leave their homes, damaging markets, and severely restricting food access. The organization cautioned that without new funding, it may be forced to delay aid to newly displaced families or divert limited resources away from communities already facing extreme food insecurity.
