Humanitarian crisis in Yemen

Overview

The humanitarian situation in Yemen has faced increasing pressure due to intensified conflict between Houthi rebels and government forces. In mid-September, the World Food Programme (WFP) requested $274 million to sustain emergency food aid, nutrition programs, and logistics through early 2027, noting that renewed fighting along the western coast had displaced approximately 125,000 people.

By early October, displacement figures rose, with over 184,000 people reported displaced since August 1. In response to the deteriorating conditions, Japan pledged $8 million in emergency aid specifically for Yemen. This funding is distributed among the WFP for food, the International Committee of the Red Cross for health and hygiene, and the International Organization for Migration for shelter and non-food items.
