World Games Kick Off in Chengdu with Dutch Team Represented

The 2025 World Games opened in Chengdu, China, featuring 34 sports and 253 medal events with roughly 5,000 athletes and officials. Held in the year following the Summer Olympics, the quadrennial competition showcases non‑Olympic disciplines such as tug‑of‑war, rescue swimming and billiards.

The Dutch Olympic Committee (NOC*NSF) announced that 89 athletes will compete in 20 disciplines, marking the first time the delegation will be broadcast under the TeamNL flag. Sports represented include korfball, freerunning, canoeing, break‑dance and other community‑based activities, highlighting the breadth of talent beyond the Olympic programme.
