World Robot Conference 2026 highlights shift to commercial humanoid deployment
The 2026 World Robot Conference in Beijing is highlighting a major industry shift as humanoid robots move from experimental demonstrations to practical commercial deployment. Approximately 3,000 products are being showcased, with a focus on real-world applications in logistics, manufacturing, and household services.
Industry leaders are debating the timeline for a ‘ChatGPT moment’ in embodied AI. ACE Robotics CEO Wang Xiaogang anticipates a significant breakthrough in robot intelligence by late 2027, while Unitree Robotics founder Wang Xingxing predicts breakthroughs in robot brain capabilities within two to three years. The core challenge remains achieving high reliability and generalization in unpredictable physical environments.
China currently dominates the sector, with reports indicating that Chinese manufacturers accounted for 97% of global humanoid robot shipments in the first half of 2026. Companies like Unitree, UBTECH, and AVIC are demonstrating specialized capabilities, including robots designed for aviation tasks such as missile loading, as well as emotional-care humanoids capable of facial expressions and conversation.
In addition to the conference, the 2nd World Humanoid Robot Games is underway, featuring over 2,000 robots from 16 countries competing in both athletic and scenario-based events, such as power-tool assembly and emergency rescue.
