World News Day campaign grows in Brazil with 130 participants
The World News Day campaign, known in Brazil as Dia Mundial do Jornalismo, has seen significant growth, with over 130 participating institutions in Brazil—an increase of more than 40 participants compared to the previous year. The mobilization, which runs from September 25 to October 1, involves media companies, unions, entities, and universities across various regions of the country.
Organized globally by the World Editors Forum, the World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), the Canadian Journalism Foundation, and Project Kontinuum, the initiative aims to demonstrate how news is produced through factual methodology to distinguish professional journalism from fake news. The campaign includes the publication of over 20 articles by Brazilian and international experts, alongside digital content, videos, and print advertisements.
In Brazil, new participants include the Brazilian Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters (ABERT), the National Association of Magazine Editors (ANER), and the Brazilian Association of Investigative Journalism (Abraji). The movement also addresses critical themes such as press freedom, media education, information integrity, and the impact of technological transformation on news production and financing.
