Turkey observes World Peace Day with political calls for justice
Various political parties, civil society organizations, and local municipalities in Turkey issued statements and held events to observe World Peace Day on September 1.
Political entities including the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP), the Republican People's Party (CHP), and the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) emphasized that true peace requires more than the cessation of hostilities. They argued that lasting peace is inseparable from justice, democracy, economic equality, and the protection of human rights. DEM Party leaders held a march in Diyarbakır, calling for an honorable peace and the establishment of a democratic society.
Civil society groups, such as the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB), highlighted the humanitarian crises in the Middle East, including Gaza, Syria, and Lebanon, while calling for an end to imperialist exploitation. Local government representatives, including the Mayor of Bodrum and the Mayor of Efes Selçuk, also shared messages focusing on the importance of social cohesion and the protection of children's rights in a peaceful environment.
