World Peace Day observations in Turkey

Overview

In observance of World Peace Day on September 1, various political, civil, and local entities in Turkey held diverse activities.

Political parties, including the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP), the Republican People's Party (CHP), and the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), issued statements emphasizing that lasting peace is tied to justice, democracy, and human rights. DEM Party leaders conducted a march in Diyarbakır to call for an “honorable peace.” Additionally, civil society groups like the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB) addressed humanitarian crises in the Middle East.

Local municipalities also organized community-focused events. In Seferihisar, the municipality hosted a clinical pilates session at a beach, while in Turgutlu, festivities for children and families included a balloon parade, competitions, and inflatable obstacle courses. Turgutlu Mayor Çetin Akın attended the celebrations, expressing wishes for “lasting peace, friendship, and brotherhood.”
