World Post Day highlights global connectivity and China's massive delivery network
World Post Day is observed annually on October 9, marking the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union in 1874. The day highlights the role of postal networks in connecting communities and providing essential services, particularly in remote areas. The theme for the upcoming 2026 cycle is ‘World Post Day: One postal network, infinite possibilities.’
In China, the State Post Bureau reported that the nation has developed the world’s largest and most widely covered delivery network, benefiting the highest number of people. Data indicates that the average annual express delivery usage per person in China exceeds 140 items. The country’s logistics infrastructure has formed major hubs in regions such as the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Yangtze River Delta, and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
China’s postal system currently processes over 6,300 parcels per second, with a daily average of 540 million packages entering delivery channels. Efforts to expand coverage have seen over 81% of administrative villages in 17 pilot counties in central and western China establish village-level integrated delivery and logistics service stations.
