World Rally Championship to trial helmet cameras in Sardinia

The World Rally Championship (WRC) will conduct a live trial of helmet camera technology during the upcoming season finale in Sardinia. The initiative aims to modernize the sport’s media offerings by providing viewers with a driver’s eye view, similar to the technology currently utilized in Formula 1.

WRC Promoter CEO Éric Boullier confirmed that an M-Sport driver will be equipped with the FIA-approved camera for testing on Thursday and Friday. If the live test is successful, the footage may be integrated into the official live television broadcast. The technology has previously been used by drivers during pre-event tests, but this marks its first application in official WRC competition.

Boullier noted that the organization is also working to upgrade bandwidth capabilities to allow for more data and additional camera angles, intending to share more content and emotion with fans through various digital platforms.
