FIA World Rally Championship media developments
Overview
The FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) is expanding its media presence and broadcasting capabilities. The BBC has secured a three-year agreement to provide free-to-air coverage in Great Britain from 2027 through 2029, which will include live stages, highlight programs, and coverage of Rally Scotland.
In addition to new broadcasting partnerships, the WRC is testing technological upgrades to enhance the viewer experience. A live trial of helmet camera technology is scheduled for the season finale in Sardinia, intended to provide a ‘driver’s eye view’ similar to Formula 1. WRC Promoter CEO Éric Boullier indicated that successful testing may lead to the integration of such footage into official live television broadcasts.
