World Tourism Day marks global importance of sustainable travel

The date was officially established in 1979 during the III General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization in Torremolinos, Spain, with the first commemoration occurring in 1980. The initiative aims to raise global awareness regarding the economic, cultural, social, and political importance of the tourism sector.

In Brazil, there is a growing trend toward experience-based tourism, where travelers seek adventures that combine nature and unconventional scenery. This shift aligns with the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which integrates economic, social, and environmental dimensions. Experts note that travelers are increasingly valuing memorable experiences, such as off-road activities, which allow access to remote locations while emphasizing environmental responsibility.
