World Youth Day Seoul 2027 launches global tree-planting campaign

World Youth Day (WYD) Seoul 2027 and the Laudato Si’ Movement have launched a global tree-planting campaign to build upon the environmental commitments made during WYD Lisbon 2023. Under the motto “Cultivating hope, caring for Creation and preparing for WYD Seoul 2027,” the initiative encourages youth, schools, universities, and religious communities to plant trees and document their efforts on a global map.

The campaign aims to offset carbon emissions related to the preparation and celebration of the 2027 event. To date, more than 12,400 trees have been planted through the initiative. In Seoul, the project is integrated into the “Breath of Life” campaign, a collaboration between the WYD organizers, the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and the Korea Forest Service. This local effort plans to involve approximately 2,000 young people in planting over 10,000 trees, including activities at World Cup Park.
