WRC 2026 Saudi Arabia rally faces safety‑driven uncertainty
The FIA is reviewing the scheduled 2026 World Rally Championship finale in Saudi Arabia, slated for 11‑14 November. A decision on whether the event will proceed is expected by mid‑September, the latest date that allows for the complex logistics of moving teams and equipment.
FIA director Emilia Abel said the situation is being monitored continuously with promoters and manufacturers, adding that “the decision may change within days.” Toyota team principal Jari‑Matti Latvala stressed that safety must come first, noting, “If Formula 1 and WEC are not going there, I question why WRC should.”
Should the Saudi round be cancelled, the WRC is considering alternative venues in Europe, including a possible rally in Catalonia, an asphalt event at Monza, or a rally on Cyprus. The move mirrors recent cancellations by Formula 1 and the relocation of WEC races from the Gulf region.
