Vietnam weather: Cold air mass brings heavy rain and flood risks

A strong cold air mass is impacting Northern and Central Vietnam, bringing significant weather changes. In the North, including Hanoi, temperatures are dropping, with high mountainous regions potentially reaching 14-17 degrees Celsius. The weather in the North is shifting toward cooler, rainy conditions.

Central Vietnam is facing heavy rainfall, with significant precipitation expected from Quang Tri to Da Nang and eastern Quang Ngai. Rainfall amounts are forecast to be between 50-100mm, with some local areas exceeding 200mm. This heavy rain period is expected to persist until October 10 or 11. The National Steering Committee for Civil Defense has instructed five central provinces to prepare for potential flooding, landslides, and flash floods.

In Ho Chi Minh City, meteorologists warn of moderate to heavy rain, with some areas receiving over 150mm. Additionally, there is a risk of flash floods and landslides on steep slopes across various mountainous regions due to saturated soil levels. Maritime warnings include strong northeast winds in the Gulf of Tonkin and the northern East Sea, with gusts reaching levels 8-9.
