Weather transition in Vietnam

Overview

Vietnam continues to experience a significant weather transition as a strong cold air mass moves through the country, bringing cooler temperatures and heavy precipitation. In Northern Vietnam, including Hanoi, temperatures are dropping, with high mountainous regions potentially reaching between 14 and 17 degrees Celsius.

Central Vietnam is facing intense rainfall, particularly from Quang Tri to Da Nang and eastern Quang Ngai. Forecasts indicate precipitation amounts between 50 and 100mm, though some local areas may exceed 200mm. This period of heavy rain is expected to persist until approximately October 10 or 11. Consequently, the National Steering Committee for Civil Defense has instructed five central provinces to prepare for potential flooding, landslides, and flash floods.

In the south, Ho Chi Minh City is under warnings for moderate to heavy rain, with some areas potentially receiving over 150mm. Across various mountainous regions, there is an increased risk of flash floods and landslides due to saturated soil levels.

Maritime conditions remain hazardous. Strong northeast winds are expected in the Gulf of Tonkin and the northern East Sea, with gusts potentially reaching levels 8 to 9.
