Wrocław evacuates 3,000 residents over WWII unexploded bomb

Authorities in Wrocław have ordered the evacuation of approximately 3,000 residents following the discovery of a World War II-era German SC 250 aerial bomb. The unexploded ordnance, weighing about 250 kg, was found during construction work at a site previously used as a multi-level parking garage, where a hotel and office complex is currently being developed.

The evacuation is scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, with residents required to leave their homes by 8:30 AM to allow sappers to begin operations at 9:00 AM. The bomb will subsequently be transported to a training ground in Biedrusko for neutralization.

Specific streets affected by the evacuation include Kolejowa, Prosta, Lelewela, Grabiszyńska, Jęczmienna, Pszenna, and Owsiana. The National Forum of Music at Plac Wolności has been designated as the assembly point for evacuees. To assist with the movement of people, local public transport (MPK) will provide special buses at designated locations near Grabiszyńska/Szpitalna and the intersection of Piłsudskiego and Kościuszki streets.
