Wrocław to increase waste fees and implement RFID monitoring
Wrocław is implementing a new waste management system that includes both increased costs for residents and advanced monitoring technology. Starting in September, monthly waste disposal fees will rise to 55 PLN per person, an increase of approximately 13.76 PLN (33%) from current rates.
To improve oversight, the municipal company Ekosystem has issued six tenders for waste collection across different city sectors. New requirements for service providers include equipping garbage trucks with legal scales, video monitoring, and RFID identification systems. This technology is intended to track the weight of waste, identify which containers are being emptied, and monitor the timing of collections to ensure proper segregation.
Additionally, new regulations will mandate more frequent cleaning and disinfection of waste containers: three times a year for mixed waste and four times a year for bio-waste. The total waste management system in the city is estimated to cost approximately 2 billion PLN.
