WWE Crown Jewel faces uncertainty amid Saudi Arabia security concerns
WWE and TKO Group Holdings are facing uncertainty regarding the Crown Jewel event scheduled for November 7 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The concerns stem from security incidents and airstrikes targeting King Khalid International Airport, which reportedly caused 17 deaths and 333 injuries this month.
While reports indicate the airport has begun reopening with some domestic and limited international flights, many international carriers maintain suspended services to the city. The regional instability has already impacted other sporting events; the Six Kings Slam tennis tournament was postponed to December, and the UCI Urban Cycling World Championships were canceled.
In contrast, boxing match Canelo Alvarez versus Christian Mbilli is expected to proceed, with Turki Alalshikh confirming Alvarez’s commitment to the Riyadh date. This commitment reportedly increases pressure on TKO to maintain its scheduled shows. WWE has indicated that while it intends to proceed with Crown Jewel, contingency plans in the United States are in place should the situation in Riyadh become untenable.
