WWE Crown Jewel faces backstage uncertainty amid Saudi risks

Overview

WWE is evaluating whether to relocate its Crown Jewel premium live event, currently scheduled for November 7 at the Riyadh Season Stadium, to the United States. This consideration follows escalating regional instability, specifically Houthi-led missile strikes targeting King Khalid International Airport. Recent reports indicate these attacks resulted in at least 12 to 17 deaths and over 300 injuries, leading to flight disruptions and a U.S. State Department travel advisory urging citizens to “reconsider travel.”

While TKO Group Holdings CEO Ari Emanuel has maintained that the event is “still set,” internal tensions are mounting. New reports from WrestleVotes describe a climate of “absolute chaos” backstage regarding travel logistics and personnel safety. While wrestlers are not strictly obligated to travel to Riyadh, there are concerns that those refusing to participate due to safety issues may face professional repercussions, such as a loss of standing or stigma within the company.

To maintain a “united front” with Saudi partners, WWE is keeping its contingency plans private, though officials are reportedly consulting with private security firms. The uncertainty has already impacted regional sports, causing the postponement of the Six Kings Slam tennis tournament and the cancellation of the UCI Urban Cycling World Championships. Despite the instability, WWE continues to promote the match card, which includes Roman Reigns versus Sami Zayn and a Last Man Standing match between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton.
