X expands Cashtags trading feature through Coinbase and Interactive Brokers partnerships

X is expanding its Cashtags feature through new partnerships with financial institutions, allowing users to transition from social media discussions to active trading.

Coinbase has joined as a launch partner, enabling users to tap on $TICKER symbols within their feeds to be routed directly to the Coinbase platform for executing trades. This follows a pilot with the Canadian fintech firm Wealthsimple, which reportedly generated $1 billion in trading volume within 48 hours of its integration.

Interactive Brokers has also announced an integration with X Cashtags. This feature provides US investors with live price charts, market data, and real-time commentary when searching for stock or crypto tickers. To incentivize the launch, Interactive Brokers is offering a $100 investment incentive for eligible new US clients who open and fund an account through the Cashtags experience.

By acting as a referral layer rather than an executing broker, X avoids the regulatory requirements of a broker-dealer while supporting its goal of becoming an “everything app” that integrates messaging, media, and financial services.
