Xai-Xai former administrator to face trial over diverted flood aid
The Gaza Provincial Judicial Court has ordered four individuals to stand trial for the alleged misappropriation of donations intended for flood victims in Xai-Xai. The defendants include the former administrator of Xai-Xai, Argilência Chissano, the head of the Inhamissa Administrative Post, Jeanet Teasse Novela, the director of the District Service of Planning and Infrastructure, Adolfo Maciel, and warehouse keeper Dionísio Maciel.
The four accused will await trial at liberty after paying bail set between 50,000 and 75,000 meticais. Investigating judge Justino Bungane ruled that there is sufficient evidence to proceed with the trial but dismissed the charge of criminal association due to a lack of proof regarding concerted action.
Additionally, the court declined to pronounce Dora Artur, director of the Gaza Provincial Governor's Office, due to insufficient evidence. The case against four other individuals—Claudina Catarina Guaimbê, Samora Bernabé Catumbi, Imildo Simbinel, and Inácio Artur Rui Sitoe—was also dismissed because of a lack of evidence demonstrating their conscious involvement in the crimes.
