Xalapa's Mercadito Bicentenario draws over 50 local entrepreneurs
The Xalapa municipal government hosted the third edition of the Mercadito Bicentenario on August 1‑2 in Parque Bicentenario. More than 50 local producers, artisans and food vendors set up free stalls to showcase regional crafts, flowers, textiles, coffee, honey, baked goods and a variety of traditional snacks such as tlayudas, marquesitas and tamales. Mayor Daniela Griego Ceballos attended the opening alongside city officials, including Secretary of Economic Development Víctor Hugo Meza Cruz and several council members. The market, themed around floriculture, also featured cultural activities: a Zumba class, live DJ sets, urban art performances, a monologue, and a ballet folklórico show. Organizers aim to boost the local economy, promote direct sales of regional products, and revitalize public spaces for families.
The event follows previous editions that have supported over 100 entrepreneurs, offering a free platform for small‑scale vendors to reach consumers without intermediary fees. By concentrating producers in a single public venue, the city hopes to strengthen community ties and encourage sustainable consumption of Veracruz’s agricultural and artisanal output.
