Xalatlaco authorities dismantle clandestine sawmill and timber warehouse

Authorities conducted a joint inter-institutional operation in the Coexapa community of Xalatlaco, State of Mexico, to dismantle a clandestine sawmill and wood storage site. The operation was triggered by intelligence work and anonymous citizen reports regarding illegal logging activities.

Using drones for surveillance along the Zempoala-La Bufa Otomí-Mexica highway, officials identified two areas of interest: a warehouse used for storing timber and a nearby site used for unauthorized tree cutting. During the inspection, authorities seized 200 wooden beams (polines) of various dimensions, a sawmill tower, two log carriers, and a three-phase motor.

The operation involved the State of Mexico Security Secretariat (SSEM), the National Guard, the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), the State of Mexico Attorney General's Office, and the Federal Attorney General for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA). PROFEPA supervised the technical seizure of the resources and machinery, while investigations continue to identify those responsible for the illegal forest exploitation.
