Midfielder Xavi Simons underwent successful anterior cruciate ligament surgery on May 5, following a knee injury sustained in Tottenham Hotspur’s 1‑0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers. The 23‑year‑old Netherlands international will miss the remainder of the 2026‑27 Premier League season and is ruled out of the 2026 World Cup, as well as the Netherlands’ upcoming Nations League matches.

Spurs confirmed the procedure and pledged support for Simons during his rehabilitation. The injury is expected to keep him out for up to 30 club and country games, potentially until early 2027. His absence leaves Tottenham short‑handed as they battle relegation, and the Dutch squad loses a key playmaker for their Group F World Cup matches.

Simons joined Tottenham from RB Leipzig in August 2025 for a reported £51.8 million and had contributed five goals and six assists in 41 appearances across all competitions before the injury.
