Xàbia adds third fire‑water tank to protect all forest fronts
The municipality of Xàbia has opened a new 500‑cubic‑metre water depot in the Covatelles area. The tank, holding about 500,000 liters, will enable roughly 500 helicopter water‑drop operations and completes a triangle of fire‑extinction basins that already covered the Granadella, Plana and Montgó fronts. The new facility extends coverage to the Tossal Gros forest front, a critical zone during the summer.
Mayor Rosa Cardona inspected the depot together with officials from the Alicante provincial fire consortium, Dénia fire brigade, local police, civil protection and the municipal emergency councilor Juan Ortolá. The installation is part of Xàbia’s broader fire‑prevention strategy, which includes recent forest cleaning works, road improvements for emergency access and the development of evacuation routes. The move follows the ten‑year anniversary of a devastating September fire that forced the evacuation of more than a thousand residents.
