Hideo Kojima's OD horror game to feature anti‑panic system and Jordan Peele collaboration
Japanese creator Hideo Kojima announced his next first‑person psychological horror title, OD, developed by Kojima Productions and published by Xbox Game Studios. The game will include an “anti‑panic” system that lets players who become too frightened continue playing, a feature Kojima says is designed to keep everyone from abandoning the experience. OD is being made in partnership with horror filmmaker Jordan Peele and will feature actors Hunter Schafer, Sophia Lillis and a posthumous appearance by Udo Kier.
The concept was rejected by multiple publishers, who called it “crazy,” before former Xbox CEO Phil Spencer and current Xbox head Asha Sharma endorsed it. No release date has been set; development has been delayed by the 2024 SAG‑AFTRA video‑game strike and Kier’s death, with a tentative window of late 2027 or early 2028. The first teaser debuted at The Game Awards 2023, and the title is built on Unreal Engine 5.
