Xbox CEO Asha Sharma Cancels Gaming Copilot and Refocuses Strategy
Asha Sharma, the new chief executive of Xbox, announced that the company is terminating development of the Gaming Copilot conversational AI assistant. Internal feedback showed limited enthusiasm from players, prompting a shift of AI resources toward neural rendering and other graphics‑performance technologies.
In her first 100 days, Sharma reduced the price of Game Pass Ultimate, helped the subscription service return to growth after an eight‑month decline, and increased overall shipments, positioning the division to pursue its goal of becoming the world’s leading gaming and entertainment company by 2030.
She also addressed Xbox’s “exclusivity conundrum,” noting that as the second‑largest publisher the firm must reach large audiences while also developing exclusive content to sustain its platform. Sharma said the company will evaluate each title carefully, balancing broad releases with selective exclusives.
Overall, the strategic reset emphasizes solving real problems for developers with AI, improving graphical fidelity, and rebuilding a closer relationship with the player community.
