Xbox CEO Asha Sharma Joins Federal Reserve Employment Task Force

The Federal Reserve announced new advisory task forces that include private‑sector leaders to help assess modern economic trends. Xbox chief executive Asha Sharma was appointed to the task force on jobs and productivity, which will evaluate the impact of general‑purpose technologies such as artificial intelligence on the labour market. Her appointment came just days after she oversaw a restructuring that will cut roughly 3,200 positions in Microsoft’s gaming division.

Sharma will work alongside Stanford economist Charles I. Jones, who advises AI company Anthropic, and venture‑capitalist Marc Andreessen. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh said the Fed remains committed to price stability and maximum employment and that external advisers will help sharpen its policy tools. The move has drawn criticism on social media for its timing, with observers questioning the suitability of a leader who has recently reduced a large workforce.

The task force’s findings will be presented to the Federal Open Market Committee as part of the Fed’s broader effort to improve the efficiency of its operations.
