The 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit commenced on August 31, 2026, in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, marking the organization's 25th anniversary. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the summit and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi in Bishkek. Additionally, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and regional security.

Togo and Egypt were the only African nations invited to participate, providing a platform for the Global South to address global governance and security challenges.
