Institutional advancements include the signing of a protocol for amendments to the SCO Charter and the announcement of a new center in Bishkek dedicated to combating transnational organized crime. The organization aims to deepen cooperation in areas such as energy, artificial intelligence, and climate change. The SCO has expanded from its 1996 origins as the Shanghai Five to include ten member states, including China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Iran, and Belarus. This growth has transformed the group from a regional security mechanism into a diverse forum for trade, energy, and diplomacy, serving as a platform for Eurasian powers to build influence outside of traditional Western institutional models. The next SCO summit is scheduled to be held in Pakistan.
