China and Ecuador sign seven cooperation agreements in Beijing

During an official state visit to Beijing, Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang to strengthen bilateral ties. The leaders signed seven cooperation agreements covering sectors such as digital economy, green industries, energy, minerals, infrastructure, and finance.

China has committed approximately US$ 43 million in non-reimbursable funds to Ecuador. These funds are earmarked for diverse projects, including the acquisition of 125 police patrol vehicles, the modernization of healthcare services (specifically dialysis and operating rooms), educational initiatives, and productive reactivation programs in northern Ecuador.

Economic discussions focused on expanding Ecuador's export market to China, specifically for products like shrimp, bananas, cacao, coffee, and flowers. Notably, China has restored export access for eight Ecuadorian shrimp processing plants. Noboa also proposed a strategic maritime alliance between the ports of Guayaquil and Shanghai to reduce transport costs and times.

President Xi emphasized the importance of Latin American autonomy, stating that regional nations have the right to choose their international partners independently and should pursue cooperation based on their own national interests.
