Xi Jinping visits North Korea, pledges deeper China‑North Korea partnership

Chinese President Xi Jinping made a two‑day state visit to Pyongyang, landing at the capital’s international airport where he and his wife Peng Liyuan were greeted by a full ceremonial honor from North Korean leader Kim Jong‑un and his wife Ri Sol‑ju. The leaders held extensive talks, emphasizing a “new era” of strategic cooperation and mutual support in a multipolar world.

During the meetings Xi announced plans to expand collaboration in economics, trade, agriculture, construction, health, science and technology, while reaffirming the long‑standing friendship between the Chinese Communist Party and the Workers’ Party of Korea. Kim highlighted the visit as a major diplomatic success and said North Korea would implement the consensus reached, aiming to raise bilateral relations to a higher level.

The visit marks the first trip by a Chinese head of state to North Korea in seven years and signals Beijing’s intent to maintain close ties with Pyongyang amid regional security concerns.
