Xiaomi launches HyperOS 4 beta with AI and new glass design

Xiaomi has officially announced HyperOS 4, its latest operating system update. The rollout has entered a beta testing phase in China, beginning August 14, with a three-phase schedule planned through mid-September. The update is designed to decouple the OS versioning from Android releases, with some devices running on an Android 17 base.

A central feature of HyperOS 4 is the “Soft Light Glass” visual design, which utilizes transparency and light refraction effects to create a sense of depth. The interface offers increased customization for lock screens, widgets, and folders. Performance optimizations via the HyperCore kernel aim to improve app loading speeds by up to 18% through predictive memory preloading.

Artificial intelligence is a primary focus, headlined by the Super XiaoAi 2.0 assistant. Powered by Xiaomi’s proprietary MiMo large-scale model, the assistant is designed to move beyond simple commands to perform complex tasks, such as cross-device coordination, content generation, and managing smart home or vehicle ecosystems.

The initial beta program includes 26 devices, primarily from the Xiaomi 17, Redmi K90, and Xiaomi Pad 8 series. Promotional materials also featured a wide-aspect ratio foldable device, suggesting upcoming hardware optimized for the new software's expanded interface capabilities.
